Whispering Pines, North Carolina
The Village of
Whispering Pines, the first incorporated village in North Carolina,
enjoys all the activities of the Sandhills Region in a unpretentious community
atmosphere away from the activity of nearby tourists, and allows a small-town
feel and friendly lifestyle.
Whispering Pines is a community of over 1300 beautiful homes built around
magnificent golf courses and sequestered among six sparkling lakes with thousands
of stately pine trees and colorful dogwood, azaleas, and hollies. Here the rapid
tempo of daily pressures has been slowed to a casual and delightful way of living
for over 2000 residents.
Whispering Pines is a 2500-acre incorporated, residential village. Because
there are no commercial sections, it is known as a village rather than a town
and is governed by an elected council of five members. Village services include,
among other things, 24-hour police protection, fire protection, garbage collection,
road maintenance, and lake maintenance. Because it is incorporated, Whispering
Pines shares North Carolina state tax revenues which results in a very modest
tax rate.
There are six lakes in Whispering
Pines. which are stocked with bass and bream. Gasoline-powered boats are allowed
on Thagard's Lake, but are restricted from the other lakes. The lakes are owned
by the Village for use only by Whispering Pines residents and property owners.
There are access areas into all lakes.
The Village Ordinances, which contain some of the best planning and zoning
laws in the state, ensure the care and quality of the development of the Village,
both now and in the future.
There is a wide age range of residents, both families and retirees. Most states are represented
among our residents with a high concentration from the northeast. Many of the families are military because of the proximity to Fort Bragg and many of the retirees are former military.
At
any time, only about 3% of the homes in Whispering Pines are for sale, which
reflects the satisfaction of homeowners with their community. Home prices range
from $180,000 to $700,000, providing options for a variety of buyers' needs in
golf course, lake and interior locations.
First Health Moore Regional Hospital is five miles from the center of Whispering
Pines and is highly ranked in the state in regard to staff, equipment, and technical
facilities.
Just ten minutes away are shopping centers, major chain super markets, quaint
shops, boutiques, and discount stores to satisfy all of your shopping needs.

The Sandhills Region
The Sandhills of North Carolina is a resort area located in Moore County.
It includes the towns of Pinehurst, Southern Pines, Carthage, Aberdeen, and Whispering
Pines. It is about 70 miles south of Raleigh, and Fayetteville and Fort Bragg
are only about 30-45 minutes away. It's name is derived from the terrain—sandy
and hilly. It is said the the rolling hills that rise to an elevation of 500-600
feet above sea level are probably dunes left from an ancient sea. Carolina longleaf
pines and oaks are the most prevalent forestation.
The climate is determined by the latitude and modified by the Appalachian
Mountains that create a barrier against the cold air from the plains. The sandy
soil drains quickly and, being a poor conductor of heat, is warmed quickly by
the sun, resulting in higher daytime temperatures, lower humidity and
cool evenings. There are four seasons, with long springs and long autumns, and
snow is a rarity.
Quiet living, excellent year-round weather, cultural events, and
easy access to major highways are ideal for outdoor activities and retirement
living. It's no wonder the Sandhills area is a popular retirement and relocation
destination!
The region also attracts horse enthusiasts. Home to both professional and
pleasure riders, horse owners take advantage of the excellent year-round weather
and footing. Horse farms surround the area, and horse boarding is available with
a variety of options.
Country Club & Golf
The surrounding area is home to 43 of the finest North Carolina golf courses,
all within a 15-mile radius! There is something here for every golfer, regardless
of handicap.
At the Country Club of Whispering
Pines, golfers can use their own private carts, rent clubhouse carts,
or enjoy walking across the the two 18-hole golf courses designed by Ellis Maples.
The club hosts tournaments, bingo, dances, and the always-popular annual talent
show. The third golf course, also an Ellis Maples designed course, is called
Whispering Woods, and memberships are available.
Nearby golf courses include the famous Pinehurst Country Club and Pine Needles.
Ranked ninth in Golf Digest's "America's 100 Greatest Golf Courses",
nearby Pinehurst No. 2 hosted the U.S. Open in 1999 and 2005. The Women's Open
was played at Pine Needles Resort in 1996 and is scheduled to return in 2007.
Lakes and Waterfronts
The Village of Whispering Pines boasts over 300 homes on lakefront property,
and six beautiful, clean lakes. Residents can access any lake, and lakefront
lots have private docks. Five of the lakes allow only electric motors and sailboats,
ensuring clean water and beautiful landscapes for future years.
